Friday, October 29th is Dirt Candy’s 2nd birthday and we’re celebrating in style.
.
There was a point before Dirt Candy opened when the idea of celebrating its second birthday wasn’t even remotely conceivable to me, so making it through almost 700 days of service is huge. And what better way to celebrate all week than by having free desserts? Here’s how it’ll work:
.
Tuesday, October 26 – order any dessert and get a free order of red pepper velvet cake.
Wednesday, October 27 – order any dessert and get a free order of popcorn pudding.
Thursday, October 28 – order any dessert and get a free order of fennel funnel cake.
Friday, October 29 – our regular customer Roopa Kalyanaraman has prepared a special dessert tonight that goes out free to every table that orders a dessert off the menu.
Saturday, October 30 – order any dessert and get a free order of our controversial Nanaimo bars.
.
A table orders three regular desserts, they get three of that night’s free dessert if they want it.
.
So make your reservations now and come on down to celebrate two years of business with us. If you’re reading this blog then chances are you’re one of our amazing customers who made this happen and the best way we know how to say “thank you!” is with dessert.

Yes, Happy Barthy to all of us.

A bonus family meal this week!
.

.
Monday: bonus family meal! Jesus made this for Danielle and I out of leftover tortillas, eggs and a bunch of surplus vegetables.
.

.
Tuesday: grits, chickpea and broccolini salad in the way back and in the front a salad with almonds.
.

.
Wednesday: trying to use up the extra haricot verts that we have left, this is a haricot verts stir fry, fried eggs (making a resurgence) and in the back some wild rice that was sent to me as a sample and is now feeding my peeps.
.

.
Thursday: a salad and a tomato and mushroom heart stew. But family meals are just biding their time today because on Friday…
.

.
Friday: Danielle’s birthday! William brought the juice, Diana bought gluten-free cupcakes, Kristen picked up chips and salsa and guacamole and Jesus brought in Mexican candy. But he also cooked.
.

.
I’ve known Jesus for six years and this is the first time as long as I’ve known him that he’s made Mexican food. Here’s his rice and enchiladas – and they were actually really good.

Saturday: don’t get too excited for us, because on Saturday it was right back to this. Spicy vegetable stew. Goodbye, birthday fiesta. Goodbye.
.
In the next four weeks, a bunch of new dishes are going to hit the menu, and they’re ones I’m really proud of. Here’re photos of them but keep in mind they’re all still works in progress:
