The Final Family Meal Fotos
.
It’s hard to say goodbye to the year-long family meal photo project, so I’m cheating in this last entry. Instead of putting up pictures of the last 6 family meals, I’m putting up pictures from the last 2 weeks of family meals. After the jump there are some super-special family meal photos, including two surprise guest chefs, Jesus’s final family meal and a family meal that has never been shown on this website before.
.

.
Tuesday: fried rice with spicy, fried yuba skin on top.
.
More excitement after the jump!
.
.

.
Wednesday: noodles with sesame and chili peppers, and a tofu, zucchini and carrot stir fry.
.

.
Thursday: an egg and mushroom heart soup. It’s spicy, so not as sad as it looks.
.

.
Friday: potato galette with a plate of mushroom hearts and onions.
.

.
Saturday: rice with fried tofu and red carrot, broccoli and cauliflower stir fry.
.
Bonus family meals!!!!!
.
This is a guest family meal made by Kellie Quarton, one of our regular customers who really wanted to do this and her meal was great.
.

.
She made us vegan huevos rancheros. So there’s a bean and tofu scramble, potatoes roasted with peppers, raw avocado, corn tortillas and juices (guava and fruit punch). Also, vegan cheese. It was really good and, even better, none of us had to make it!
.

A close-up on those tortillas.
.

Kellie Quarton herself, basking in our appreciation.
.
The next super-special family meal guest chef was a surprise. William, my dishwasher, said he wanted to make family. I’ve never had a dishwasher step up like this, but William was gung ho. He was up all night prepping his family meal at home and then he showed up ready to rock and roll.
.

He set up a prep station next to the sink to
do some last minute chopping.
.

Jesus looks on. Waiting to be impressed.
.

.
And here it is. There’s camarones ceviche, fried plantains and rice. Danielle made a salad for our intern who’s vegan. Oh, and there’s orange juice! Normally I wouldn’t have seafood for family, but William really wanted to treat everyone and it’s one of the dishes he can really knock out of the park. It was an incredibly nice thing for him to do and it had the added bonus of being really, really good.
.

One more look at William’s family meal.
.

Late night family meal.
.
Before the final family meal photo, here’s a look at a top secret family meal. You’ve seen a year’s worth of family meals on this site, but you’ve always seen daytime family meal. Pictured above is nighttime family meal. We usually have nighttime family meal after the last diner has left and we’re cleaning up.
.
And now…the last family meal. Made, of course, by Jesus.
.

.
He had to give me eggs at the end, didn’t he? Scrambled eggs, french fries and, to go with the fries, ketchup soup. Sort of a tomato soup that he wanted me to put on my fries. Ah, Jesus. I knew you’d go out this way. Leaving me slack-jawed in your wake, trying to figure out exactly what’s going on inside your head.
.
That’s it, folks. 240 family meals at Dirt Candy. That’s a year in our life, and in our stomachs. It’s hard to stop, but it’s time. I’m going to let Boyz II Men have the last word…
