Monday, July 1 is Canada Day and Dirt Candy is celebrating by paying homage to Canada’s greatest hero…John Candy!
Probably the world’s greatest actor, definitely the world’s greatest uncle, and undoubtedly the world’s number one shower curtain ring salesman, John Candy is, like every Canadian, funny, talented, and handsome and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate our country’s birthday than to have...
John Candy’s Canada Day Cookout!
Monday, July 1
5:30pm - 11pm
Starting at 5:30pm, we’ll be transforming Dirt Candy into The Great Canadian Beer Hall, having a cookout, and screening John Candy’s best movies all night long (as well as Summer Rental).
We’re serving Canadian beer and cocktails ONLY, from Bloody Caesars (the national cocktail of Canada) to Molsons, to beers from select Canadian microbreweries. We’ll be serving our classic Apology (a Molsons and a shot of Crown Royal), our Really Sincere Apology (a Molsons, a shot of Crown Royal, and a shot of Canadian Club), and PEI Picklebacks (a shot of Canadian Club and a shot of pickle juice).
In honor of John Candy, our mixologist has handcrafted The Del Griffith, named after Candy’s character in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and based on the cocktail Del and Neal (Steve Martin) drink while trapped in the El Rancho motel. As they say in the movie, it’s a trip around the world.
The Del Griffith
one minibottle of gin
one minibottle of amaretto
one minibottle of tequila
one minibottle of rum
one bag of Dorito’s (original flavor)
Is this a good combo or what?
Dirt Candy will also be sneak previewing its veggie burgers! Made of just nine ingredients (most of them vegetables), they’ve been perfected over the last two years and won’t be available to the public for months...but Canadians get them first at John Candy’s Canada Day Cookout!
We’ll be grilling our regular veggie burgers, cheese burgers, Masala Burgers (spicy!), Guacamole Burgers (Limes! Radishes! Avocados!), and Chipotle Chip Burgers (stuffed with french fries and creamy chipotle sauce!).
We’ll have fries and poutine (made with real cheese curds!), three kinds of summer salad (Waldorf! Caesar! Chopped!) and for dessert there will be ice cream sundaes with Nanaimo crumbles!
You can walk on in (we’ll have plenty of seats) anytime between 5:30pm and 11pm, or call and make a reservation now (212-228-7732). All we need is a credit card number and we’ll hold your seats for you.
See you at John Candy’s Canada Day Cookout…because if Canada ever had a king, it was John Candy!
